Jan-Feb 2016

Experimenting with watercolors is what I have been doing. In January I was taught fluid backgrounds by Sandy Grey, who has been studying watercolor and oil for years with many different teachers.

San Antonio Kitten, watercolor, 9x12"
"San Antonio Kitten" is in my usual style. It was a fun piece to paint.

Vive la France! Eiffel Tower, watercolor, 9x12"
"Vive la France! Eiffel Tower" was a commission and I decided to use the new technique Sandy introduced me to. It is done on wet paper and involves the use of salt to get the background pattern.

Leopard Hide and Seek, watercolor, 9x12"
"Leopard Hide and Seek" was done with saran wrap and salt. When I pulled the saran wrap off I saw the outline and eyes of the Leopard.

Camo Cat, watercolor, 9x12"
"Camo Cat" started as a background that wasn't fluid and a little too strong. I turned it into an abstract camouflage cat.

Flower Serenity, watercolor, 9x12"

"Flower Serenity" has a background made with salt which I liked so much, I decided to frame it with abstract flowers.
