August 2019

This summer has gone by fast. First we had Gerald  staying with us. Then we had a wonderful family time in Connecticut and Quebec. We enjoyed being together with my cousin and Yolande and her family. I have a new favorite place: Quebec, where we saw beautiful landscapes and went whale watching.

Yolande's Canigou, oil, 16x20"

Yolande's Canigou in palettte knife is the result of re-examining the earlier version and making it more realistic. I knew the peach trees needed little alteration, the mountain was a different matter. The blossoms did need a gray blue in the hills to bring them out. A gray or white mist did not seem right, so I used the same color a little transparent. I played with different blues on the mountain and with texture, since there were a lot of previous layers.

Mondriaan Meditation, watercolor, 11x14"
Mondriaan Meditation is my first attempt to recreate my mini Mondriaan cats in a larger format. I wanted the cat to be a part of the geometric painting, not superimposed.

In September my art will be on display at La Tuna (Bar and Grill) in San Antonio. This time, I will show more oils than watercolors.
The Honoring Women exhibit will be at the School of Optometry/Rosenberg/Incarnate Word till its closing reception on Dec 8th. Thanks to all who came to see the show!

Thank you for your interest and support!

Dec 2018

I hope you are having a wonderful Holiday season. I wish all of you a Healthy, Happy 2019!

Abbie's Trees, oil on panel, 9x12"
Abbie's Trees were painted from a photo in the studio. I kept thinking about O'Keeffe while working on them.
Gracie, graphite on Bristol, 9x12"
Dreamy Gracie was a challenge I enjoyed.

Pond Reflections, oil on panel, 16x20"
Pond Reflections were painted on location, by an ever changing beautiful pond.

Springtime Canigou, oil on panel, 16x20"
Springtime Canigou is waiting for me to have time to evaluate it. I am torn between my old detailed way of working and my new carefree approach.

All the work above was commissioned and I am very grateful for your trust and the challenge and learning that comes with each new piece.

However, I am not accepting any new commissions for at least a year as I want to finish current projects and cut out some time to work on paintings of my own.

Cool morning at the River, 9 x 12"
The Starving Artist's Show in La Villita, (San Antonio) was well attended this year in spite of the cold weather. I had a good show and enjoyed meeting new customers.

In April my cat art is on display at South Alamode,
my pencil portraits are at Four Kings together with landscapes by Maren Philips.
The large tree paintings are at FLOAT.

I hope you have some time to enjoy spring.

April, May and June 2017

While listening to Marcel Proust and Emile Zola's novels, I have been drawing and painting my commissions over the last few months.
The Brother with his Baby Sister are direct descendants of Mary Cassatt's brother Alexander. I found it quite an honor to portray Mary's relatives.

The Virgin of Guadalupe is very popular in San Antonio. This is the first time I painted her image.

Sham in his darker summer and lighter winter coat. I enjoyed painting this portrait. It started when the trees were bare and I kept thinking, I need to paint those black trees with a building. There was very little time to paint and before I knew it, spring had come and the trees were leafing out. Looking through the photographs I had taken of Sham, I found the right one with lots of bare branches.  I felt confident that Sham's owner would understand, so I began without consulting her. (It is the first time I took such a chance on a commission.) As it turned out, she likes it, too!

In June and July, my art will be exhibited at the Courtyard Cafe at 7600 Eckhert Rd in San Antonio (till July 31st). The reception will be on June 23rd from 4 till 6pm. It will be followed by BillyRay Sheppard Jazz duo from 7 till 10pm. The Courtyard Cafe has gluten free and vegetarian options.
I hope some of my local supporters can make it.

Have a great summer!
